The Swedish Coast Guard is a civil government preparedness authority responsible for maritime surveillance and rescue services at sea on behalf of the government and parliament. Description

The Swedish Coast Guard is now seeking a temporary Data Protection Officer for the Legal Unit, located in either Karlskrona, Malmö, or Gothenburg.

The Legal Unit is responsible for providing advice and support in legal matters, data protection, and case management, as well as handling various types of legal cases such as secondary employment, liability and compensation issues, and state compensation claims, among others. The Legal Unit is also responsible for the authority's register for personal data processing and responds to most of the authority's incoming referrals.

The data protection regulations play a central role within the Coast Guard as personal data is processed throughout the authority, in all departments. The data protection work contributes to implementing important parts of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Crime Data Act, and applicable registration regulations.

Job Responsibilities

As a Data Protection Officer, you will work closely with the authority's lawyers, data protection officers, and data protection administrators on tasks within the unit's area of responsibility. Your main task is to provide internal advice to various parts of the organization regarding personal data processing and data protection. The tasks may also include administering the authority's register for personal data processing, handling referrals, secondary employment, compensation cases, requests for public documents, and register extracts.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • education focused on law or information science, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • very good knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Crime Data Act.
  • good ability to convey information and express yourself in speech and writing, in both Swedish and English.

The following experiences are particularly meritorious:

  • experience and competence in working with data protection, administrative law, information exchange, or public access and confidentiality.
  • experience from practical work with data protection, for example, with privacy by design and default and risk and impact assessments based on data protection regulations.
  • experience of case management in government or other public sector work.

Conditions

The position is a temporary employment until December 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension. Start date is by agreement.

Business travel is included in the employment, both domestic and international.

For employment, Swedish citizenship, a drug test, and security clearance according to the Security Protection Act are required. Tests may be conducted during the recruitment process and used in the selection.
